I'm writing this month's blog drinking a glass of ice cold water with a wedge (not a slice) of lemon in a pub by myself. Why? Because I forgot my keys and I don't have any money on me. And it's raining. There's a half-melted candle, some fairy lights draped across the room and the Scissor Sisters playing on the system. Quite a fitting place to reminisce on our latest adventures.
WE RELEASED A VIDEO. It was for our single Too Good. We teamed up with our good friend Ben Hale who directed the video, Harry Bojakowski who lit us up beautifully, and four amazing dancers (big up Liv, Shawn, Rose and Beth). Big thanks to everyone involved, anyone who lent us a TV, and an even bigger thanks to whichever 80s weatherman provided me with yellow blazer I wore in the video.
As summer came to an end, our biggest show of the season rolled around. We were lucky enough to be invited to open up Leeds Festival alongside The Pigeon Detectives, High Tyde, Fling and Dead Naked Hippies. The show was probably my favourite to date. It was pretty surreal going from being the pissed 18 year-olds in the field to playing to them. If you were in that tent, we love you with all of our hearts, hands and flip-flops.
School Night, our monthly club night in Leeds, returned in September at our favourite bar in the world: Oporto. They're brave/stupid enough to allow us to DJ whilst actually talented people play beforehand. Fellow Alan Partridge enthusiast Emily Pilbeam of BBC Introducing/Radio 1 was our guest curator, taking charge of booking the bands for us this month, whilst simultaneously showing us up on the decks. Scruff Of The Neck will take on the October co-hosting duties. Unfortunately, we'll only be there in spirit for that one because...
We’re off to Europe again🎈! The Hippo Campus boys have invited us to open up their Berlin and Brussels shows after a gig we’re playing near Paris. We're extremely excited to be visiting some new countries, and I'm particularly excited to use the phrase "when in Rome", whilst not in Rome. That's some top drawer banter right there. We're also playing Hippo Campus’ London show at KOKO, which looks like a beautiful venue. Well done, KOKO.
In other news, Oli can't stop spilling hot drinks on himself, Rob drank wayyyyyy too much coffee and had a meltdown, Cale lost on the teddy picker at the motorway services, and I had my guitar painted yellow, but not yellow, but it is yellow.
Lots of love,
