BAND BLOG - MAY/JUN '18: POOP, POUTINE AND PARTON.

June 17, 2018

Well, well, well... it has been bestowed upon me to fill you in on what has been happening in Marsicansland throughout May and June. You may have noticed that we didn't post one of our tell-alls last month, and we apologize profusely for that, but we were busy being an international beat combo. Or something like that, LET ME TELL YA ALL ABOUT IT THEN...

Festival season kicked off for us in a big ol' way. At the start of May, we commandeered the ears of the fine people of Leeds, Liverpool and Newcastle and delivered some sweet, sweet jams into them. Despite sitting in M62 traffic for 1 million hours in the heat, it was a glorious way to start what is a rather exciting festival season for us.

Then, we hopped in a big metal can and hurtled towards a different continent (I watched Black Panther on the flight, enjoyed it), oh you know, to somewhere called CANADA! I'm going to try fill you in on our trans-atlantic hijinx without taking up all of your day. Wish me luck. We checked into our lovely rented house in Koreatown and got to know the local neighbourhood on the first day, which included a Poop Café no less (so weird, but kinda cool). Our two shows in Toronto for Canadian Music Week were over in a flash, but we still shmoozed our way round the music conference for the rest of the week, like fucking top lads. Honestly a massive shout out here to Canadian Music Week for having us, to the PRS Foundation for helping us get over there and have the best time of our lives, and also to anyone else who was nice to us out there - which turns out to be everyone, cause everyone in Canada is nice, I'm sure of it.

Anyway, business concluded, y'boyys check themselves in to the leisure part of the journey. We spent a lot of time gawping at street signs, fire hydrants, the yellow school buses and everything else we could point at and go "Ooh look, I've seen that kind of thing on the TV". We went shopping together and picked up some lovely new shirts, ate all the food Toronto could throw at us, which turned out to be a smorgasbord of all the best foods you can imagine (save poutine). On the Friday night, we went to the baseball to see our new favourites, the Toronto Blue Jays absolutely destroy the Boston Red Sox in a 12-inning duel which ended with a Blue Jay homer, which I'm told is baseball for 'home run'. LET'S GO BLUE JAYS. We spent our remaining days in Canadian Paradise taking photographs, having some R&R and watching Cale say "ey up" to confused looking natives. THE FUN DIDN'T STOP THERE. OH NO, IT DIDN'T...

Part 2. The US. We hopped over the border (well...drove, legally, if you're reading Trump) in our swanky Dodge Durango for a couple days in Ithaca, NY. We spent our time there doing various activities, my favourite of which being a lunchtime boat tour on Cayuga Lake (which is fucking massive). It was a real peaceful afternoon which sometimes you just need, y'know? The following shout-outs go out to Allan and Barbara Eaglesham for housing us, feeding us, and being the best hosts anyone could hope for. I'm trying to wrap things up here but I keep remembering little bits. Like Buffalo! So yeah, we went to Buffalo for some Buffalo wings because, when in Rome..... OH AND NIAGARA FALLS. WE WENT TO THAT BIG WATERFALL. We went on the boat to the bottom of the falls and I can hand on heart say it was one of the best experiences of my life. Would recommend. Even if just for the nice Poncho you get. Sorry for rambling on a bit there, I've even left loads of other fun bits out too, but you'll have to ask me in person about those. To summarise though: we had the best time ever. We even made a video about it.

We landed back at Heathrow and drove dreary-eyed and sleep-deprived to Brighton for our three Great Escape shows. Luckily, the shows were bangin' and they kept us absolutely buzzing and we got over feeling sorry for ourselves. We got to see some class bands as well, all rounded off by The Magic Gang on the Saturday night. All in all, a successful couple weeks for some JLS wannabees.

After all that excitement, we slept, showered, sent School Night into summer retirement, and played at Vale Fest in Birmingham, which was a great day out for Pat. There'll be things "popping-up" in the very near future which we're very excited about, but I'm going to leave it there. If you're still here, well done.

In other news, Rob and his alter-ego 'Red Den' have been allegedly scheming to trademark the colour red, Oli got addicted to (very) hot sauce, Cale has been wearing a lovely pair of slacks, and I've become slightly obsessed with Dolly Parton.

Always,

James x
